Free receipt template for Australian tradies
A receipt confirms money you've been paid: how much, when, how, and what it paid for. It's your customer's proof of payment and your record of it. This PDF is the receipt SmokoBooks produces, with placeholder business details and a GST column. Print it, or use it as a checklist for your own.
What a receipt should include
- Your business name and ABN
- Exactly as they appear on your invoice.
- Receipt number and date
- Numbered in order and never reused, like your invoices.
- The invoice or quote it pays
- The invoice number is how you and your customer match the payment to the job.
- What was supplied, and when
- A line for the work or goods the payment covers. If the date of the work isn't clear from the invoice, put it in the description.
- Amount received and payment date
- What actually arrived, and the day it landed.
- Payment method and reference
- Bank transfer, cash, card, BPAY or other, with the transaction reference.
- Deposit, progress or final
- Tick the payment type, and whether it's now paid in full.
- Amount paid and balance due
- So a part payment shows what's still owing.
- Issued by
- Your name, with a typed authorised signature.

Common questions
Is a receipt the same as a tax invoice?
Not automatically. This template is headed RECEIPT and confirms a payment. If your customer needs a tax invoice, send your invoice, and check what it must show on the ATO's tax invoices page.
Can a receipt show a part payment?
Yes, and it should. Tick deposit or progress payment, and show the amount paid and the balance still owing. SmokoBooks fills both in from the amount received.
Why are my bank details not on the receipt?
A receipt confirms money that has already been paid, so the SmokoBooks receipt leaves them off. Your bank details print on quotes and invoices.
Can I add my logo?
Not to this PDF, which is fixed. SmokoBooks prints your logo, colours and business details on every receipt it makes.
