SmokoBooks is a Windows program for trade businesses. Quotes, invoices, job paperwork and your cash-book live in a data folder on your own computer, with a backup each day you use it, and it keeps working without an internet connection for up to 14 days at a time.

Quote, invoice and bookkeeping software for Windows 10 and 11
"Desktop" here means an ordinary Windows program you install, not a website you log in to. It opens from its desktop or Start menu shortcut, and your records are files on your own computer.
Installed on your PC
Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit; the installer is about 120 MB. It installs for your Windows user only, so no admin rights are needed. The installer is not code-signed: if SmartScreen appears, click More info, then Run anyway.
Your books in a data folder
Customers, quotes, invoices, expenses and settings are kept in one data file on the PC, with your PDFs saved alongside. File › Open data folder takes you there, and uninstalling leaves the folder where it is.
A backup every day
The first time you save each day, a dated backup is written, and the last 30 are kept. If the data file is ever damaged, SmokoBooks opens the most recent backup instead and tells you.
Your own copies
Settings › Backup and data › Export backup writes every document, ledger entry, contact and setting to one file. Keep a copy somewhere other than the PC, such as a USB drive.
Changing computers? Export a backup, choose Deactivate on this computer in Settings › Licence, then install on the new PC, enter your key and use Import backup, which replaces everything on the new PC with the backup. More on your data
Offline invoicing software, with one honest catch
Everything you make is made on the PC, so a dead spot on site does not stop you writing up the job. The catch is the licence: SmokoBooks checks in once a day and must succeed at least once every 14 days.
Works with no connection
- Writing quotes, invoices, receipts and the other job documents, saved as PDFs on the PC
- Jobs, payments, expenses with receipt photos, subcontractors and the vehicle log
- The dashboard and the Tax & BAS screen
- Exporting the Excel workbook, the documents CSV or a backup
Needs the internet
- Activating your licence key on the computer
- The daily licence check (while it cannot connect, the app shows how many offline days are left)
- Emailing a quote or invoice to a customer
- Downloading updates, which install when you close the app or click Restart
- On Solo + office PC, syncing between the two computers, which your OneDrive, Google Drive or Dropbox does
After 14 days without a successful check, the app locks until you reconnect and the check succeeds; nothing is deleted. The check sends licence details and totals such as how many documents exist, never the contents of your books (privacy policy).
It is a subscription, not a one-off purchase
SmokoBooks is a monthly or yearly subscription; there is no one-off version you buy once and keep. If you want desktop software without a subscription, this is not it.
Every plan has every feature and includes updates; you only choose one computer or two.
If your subscription ends, the app locks. Your PDFs, data file and daily backups stay on your PC — export the Excel workbook before your plan ends.

If you used MYOB AccountRight offline
MYOB's own notice says that from 17 June 2026, offline mode "is no longer available for MYOB AccountRight desktop version 2026.5 (PC edition)". It also says a company file that is not online after that date cannot be opened, edited or saved.
MYOB also says AccountRight desktop itself is staying. Its path is to move your company file online and keep using AccountRight with an active AccountRight subscription. If AccountRight does the job for you, that is the simplest way forward, and MYOB's page explains how.

Where SmokoBooks fits, and where it does not
SmokoBooks keeps the books on your PC, but it is not a like-for-like replacement for AccountRight. It does not do payroll, inventory or multi-user accounting, it has no bank feeds, and it cannot open an AccountRight file. If your business relies on any of those, stay with a full accounting package.
It is made for trade businesses that mainly need quotes, invoices, job paperwork and a cash-book: nine document types (quote, invoice, receipt, work order, variation, defect notice, service report, SWMS and, for electricians, a rental electrical safety check), expenses, BAS figures by quarter if you are registered for GST, and an Excel workbook for your accountant at tax time.
What SmokoBooks does not do
Better to know now than after the trial. These are not part of it:
No bank feeds
Nothing connects to your bank. You record payments and expenses yourself and tick them off against your statement.
No payroll
No wages, super or Single Touch Payroll. It is not built for paying employees.
No inventory
No stock control. Materials are logged as expenses.
One person at a time
Only one computer has the books open at a time, even on the two-computer plan. It is not multi-user accounting.
No lodging
It does not lodge your BAS or tax return. It gives you the figures; you or your agent lodge them.
No importer
It cannot open or import a MYOB, Xero or spreadsheet file. Import backup only restores a SmokoBooks backup.

Questions about desktop and offline use
Does SmokoBooks work without the internet?
Yes, for up to 14 days at a time. It needs the internet to activate your key and for a daily licence check. After 14 days without a successful check it locks until you reconnect; nothing is deleted while it is locked.
Is it a one-off purchase?
No, it is a subscription: Solo is $19 a month or $190 a year for one computer, and Solo + office PC is $29 a month or $290 a year for two. There is no one-off licence.
Does it run on Windows 11?
Yes: Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit. There is no Mac, phone or tablet version. The browser demo at smokobooks.com.au/try lets you click around the real app with sample data before you install anything.
Can I bring my MYOB AccountRight file across?
No, there is no importer. Add your price list and open jobs yourself (customers are added automatically when you save a quote), start from a clean date such as a new quarter, and keep MYOB's reports for your records.
Is there a free trial?
Yes: 14 days free on the Solo plan. You add a card on Stripe's secure page, but nothing is charged until the trial ends, and we email you three days before it does. If you buy and it isn't right for you, email us within 14 days of your first payment for a full refund.
