Solo + office PC plan
Two computers, one set of books.
The tradie on the laptop, a partner or bookkeeper on the office PC, both looking at the same quotes, invoices and expenses. No cloud account, no monthly per-user fee: the books live in a folder you already sync, and SmokoBooks keeps the two computers from treading on each other.
Two-minute walkthrough recorded from the app.
Step by step
- 1
Pick a synced folder
You need OneDrive, Google Drive or Dropbox on both computers, signed in to the same account. Most Windows PCs already have OneDrive. That's the only requirement.
- 2
On the first computer: move the books
Open SmokoBooks → Settings → Data folder → Move books to a shared folder. Pick an empty folder inside your synced folder (for example OneDrive › SmokoBooks). Your documents, ledger, contacts, settings and backups are copied there and SmokoBooks restarts using that folder.
- 3
Wait for the folder to sync
Give OneDrive or Google Drive a minute to upload the folder. On the second computer, check the folder has appeared and finished syncing (no spinning icon).
- 4
On the second computer: join
Install SmokoBooks from your download link. On the welcome screen choose "Already using SmokoBooks on another computer? Choose the shared folder" and pick the same folder. SmokoBooks restarts with your books and activates itself with your licence key. No key to type.
- 5
Work, one computer at a time
Both computers see the same quotes, invoices, customers and expenses. If the books are open on the other computer, SmokoBooks tells you who has them and asks you to wait. Close it there, give the folder a few seconds to sync, and carry on. When one computer saves, the other picks the change up automatically.
Good to know
- Already on Solo? Upgrade from the Manage subscription page (Update plan in the billing portal), or email us and we switch your key to two computers.
- Two people at exactly the same time? That needs the books on a server, which is a different (Team) plan we're building. For now one person works while the other waits, which suits most small crews.
- Backups are kept in the shared folder too, so they sync as well. Keep an extra copy somewhere else now and then (Settings → Export backup).
- Going back to one computer: Settings → Data folder → Use this computer's own folder. The shared books are left untouched.
- Stuck? Email admin@aenetworks.com.au. Help › Export support file inside the app gives us what we need.
